The idea of the multiple is a popular staple of the art world. Editions of prints or photographs are prevalent and even the three dimensional object has been adapted to this model.
Brand and McArdle seek to explore the idea of the multiple through their existing practices. How can this notion be the central force for making? What is a multiple? How do their practices play differently off this central theme? Brand's practice deals with found words, flat planes, a good pinch of humour and the occasional flash of colour. The resulting works offer a pithy look at how we deal with, consume and ignore things in our everyday life. McArdle’s work takes a studied approach to questions arising from experiences in her life. The resulting work is a focus on blending concept and technical skill using a variety of materials including textiles, metal, wood and stone. @zbrandbrand @claire__mcardle |
