There is a lack of understanding and confidence with how contemporary art jewellery can be worn and placed on the body. We want to open the idea that anything imagined can be worn, in the form of contemporary art jewellery that is. Working with a Melbourne clothing designers on Gertrude Street, we will place contemporary pieces of jewellery on pieces of clothing - for both men and women.  This exhibition will draw upon together a group of Australian and International artists which will push the boundary to show the diversity of how contemporary jewellery is worn and placed. It will also acknowledge that what we wear represents ideas and messages, whether subtle or bold.   Ensuring contemporary art jewellery is worn correctly and with confidence is one part of the what we do at Bilk Gallery. Not only for the collector, but for the integrity of pieces of art and artists.

About the Artists

Bilk Gallery has been showcasing contemporary Glass and metal for over 14 years. Established at Workshop Bilk in 2000 the gallery moved in 2010 to its current location on Palmerston Lane in the heart of Manuka. The gallery brings together both the makers and public to create a dialogue and promote the best of young emerging artists as well as established internationally renowned artists. We aim to give a new value and concept to contemporary metal and glass and satisfy the need for an expression of individuality. The directors Helen Aitken-Kuhnen and  Mio Kuhnen hold up to 9 exhibitions each year consisting of a mix of solo and group shows in glass or metal. The artists are chosen for their individuality of approach, use of materials, recognisable style and commitment to contemporary practice.
