Artist/s: Susan Cohn

You can make with passion, you can break rules along the way, you can be inventive, but what if, what you make is boring, or even worse, very boring. How do you know? What is boring? Predictable, spiritless, repetitive, trendy or uninteresting? There is no clear code or guideline. No matter what your intention is, the viewer or wearer will decide for you. And what one person may find inspiring another thinks is boring.

When you have been making for a long time how do you make work that is fresh? Perhaps the only way to unravel what might be boring is to make a body of work back to front. The starting point becomes ‘this work is boring’. In this exhibition, I will try to take the meaning out of my work, to shift focus on the predictable and sameness. I will attempt simply to make jewellery as jewellery.
