Enter a dimmed and mysterious Crypt beneath the Good Shepherd Chapel and contemplate the intricacies of a Crown of Golden Alfalfa.
Drawing Out the Gold honours the work of Mexican Nano-Scientist, Jorge Gardea-Torresdey who’s childhood lands were decimated by the chemical exposures of industrial gold mining. Following a hunch, Gardea-Torresdey discovered Alfalfa naturally extracts alluvial gold through a process of phytoremediation, drawing it from the soil into its roots, stems and leaves. The Crown adorns the head, alluding to the mind. The act of wearing the crown symbolises an embrace of an innovative, environmentally sympathetic approach, over hostile traditional mining methods. Historically the form of a crown references a halo, suggesting rulership and higher thinking. The Alfalfa Crown points us toward a position of transcendent thinking where responsibility is carried for the wellbeing of people, the land and the future. @katherynleopoldseder @goodsheperdchapel @abbotsfordconvent |
