Fivetwelve is a contemporary jewellery studio located on the fifth floor of the iconic Century building in the heart of Melbourne. Established in June 2016 by Michelle Cangiano and Rhys Turner, Fivetwelve is designed around a traditional open plan workshop with a separate exhibition and meeting space. As a jewellery studio, it aims to create an environment where resident makers can share knowledge and equipment, meet with clients, have private viewings and host exhibitions.

For Radiant Pavilion 2017, Fivetwelve is having an open studio. This is an opportunity to venture up into this beautiful space and see how a jewellery studio runs. Come meet resident makers, have a chat, check out our workshop and view a collaborative exhibition by Co-founders, Michelle Cangiano and Rhys Turner.

About the Artist

Michelle Cangiano lives and works in Melbourne. Completing a Fine Art Degree in Painting she went on to study Gold and Silversmithing at RMIT. Her work is inspired by the meanings people imbue into objects. The historical and present day rituals and superstitions connected to jewellery as signifier is a constant source of enquiry. Along with her exhibiting art practice and private commissions, Michelle produces hand made jewellery collections, which are held in numerous Galleries around Australia. Michelle is co-founder and director of FiveTwelve, an independent jewellery studio, established in 2016 and housed in the iconic Century Building, Melbourne.

Melbourne based jeweller Rhys Turner draws inspiration from geometric forms and clean lines often seen in Minimalist Architecture. He creates pieces that are paired-back to their necessary elements to draw focus on the connection between contemporary jewellery design and traditional materials and techniques. Completing his BA(Jewellery) at CSU in 2006, Rhys went on to work in Canberra and Melbourne, developing a broad technical skillset, and in 2014 was awarded the Australian Jeweller of the Year. Since co-founding Melbourne studio FiveTwelve in 2016, Rhys focuses private commissions and gallery collections both incorporating a strong emphasis on the handmade.
