The Streets of Melbourne

26 August – 3 September
Artist/s: Fran Carter & Caroline Thomas

Inspiration often comes from the most unlikely sources, and from the most unlikely places. Our evolving project explores the ever-changing nature of the creative process and the constant relationship all makers have with their own individual process.

For Radiant Pavilion 2017 we will be taking to the streets daily, seeking out obliging surfaces to play host to our magnetic jewellery moments. In addition each day we will leave a piece of jewellery, made by one of us, to be discovered. It is hoped that the continuing stories of many of these moments and pieces will be captured online. For more information on how to get involved and track our project please visit us on Instagram @moments_of_jewelleryness and Facebook Moments of Jewelleryness.

Born in London to Kiwi parents, Caroline Thomas spent many years working as an image researcher for clients in the UK and NZ before studying jewellery design at Whitireia NZ. Since graduating in 2013, Caroline has continued to exhibit both at home and abroad and is an active member of two Wellington-based artists’ groups, Occupation:Artist and The See Here. Caroline is currently part of Handshake 4, the latest iteration of the successful mentorship programme created by Peter Deckers and she can be contacted via carolinethomas.co.nz

Fran Carter is a Wellington born maker and recent Whitireia NZ graduate of the contemporary jewellery programme. Fran has had work selected for national and international jewellery exhibitions such as Wunderrūma, the touring exhibition of contemporary New Zealand jewellery curated by Karl Fritsch & Warwick Freeman. In 2015 she was the Whitireia Artist in Residence at Toi Pōneke Art Centre in Wellington. Fran and her peers took part in the first Radiant Pavilion Object & Jewellery trail under the guise of Tuesday’s Order, exhibiting their group show ‘Park Where You Want’ at Fort Delta gallery. fran-carter-jewels.com
