In Memory + Assembly, jeweller and object maker Bianca Mavrick returns to her earliest memories of childhood, exploring the personal and collective migrant experiences of her Greek-Italian family growing up in sub-tropical Queensland. Distilling memory and cultural ephemera into a series of hand crafted components in metal, paper, timber and resin – Mavrick uses this space to develop a distinct visual language for her experience. The graphic motifs drawn from her research and reflection on her family and community are combined and recombined, connecting both narrative and play in this new body of work. An accomplished jeweller and sculptor, Mavrick has exhibited both nationally and internationally and was awarded the Australasian Design Graduate of the Year (Jewellery) from the Design Institute of Australia in 2013.

About the Artist
Contemporary jeweller, Bianca Mavrick is known for working across diverse colour and material palettes. Her practice draws on the translation of memory into graphic motifs and the connection between individual expression and shared visual language. With a background in Industrial Design and a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art (Jewellery and Small Objects), Mavrick is known for pushing the boundaries of production, pitting artisanal processes against industrial fabrication and resolving the two through handmade techniques. Vivid colours are her calling card, expressed through tactile materials such as cold enamel, hand-turned and painted timber, sterling silver and precious stones.
