Claire McArdle, El Torito, 2015, cotton, stuffing
524 Flinders St
Opening Sat 5 September 5-9pm
Known for its handcraft traditions and vibrant culture, Oaxaca is located in Southwestern Mexico. Oaxaca Experiencia is an explorative exhibition of the time I spent there. Experiences, encounters and traditional making techniques form the basis of these jewellery and object works. They imitate and alter techniques including tin work, wood carving, filigree and textiles. Stone work is used to materialise forms of unrest and the attempts to wash them out. And to explore the souvenir and the impact of tourism. The work will be shown in an immersive atmosphere with the blending of art and surrounds.
