5 September
10.30am - 2.30pm

Visitors are invited to come and observe members of Blacksmith Doris as they build the fire, heat steel and transform it with hammers large and small.  They will be able to stand amongst the noise, heat and dirt of the workshop on a typical 1st Saturday of the month.  Through this invitation, To Doris We Go, Doris intends expanding the understanding of traditional contemporary object-based practice through an old, but renewed, metal craft.  What will be seen will reinforce the perspective that outcome is not always necessary to a practice, but being in the creative moment is enough. http://todoriswego.blogspot.com.au

About the Artists

Blacksmith Doris is a group of women exploring blacksmithing.  Through skill sharing they teach and learn the craft of traditional blacksmithing while providing a space for individuality.

For over five years Blacksmith Doris members (the Dorises) have met once a month at the ABA Vic Barn, Cooper’s Settlement.  The first ever was held on Saturday 21st of November 2009 at Blueprint Sculpture Studio, North Melbourne, assembling twenty-one women and three children.  Blacksmith Doris has attracted national and international attention though an American radio podcast; at the JMGA conference in Queensland; a New Zealand online magazine; and a lecture in Estonia.
