CRAFTED WORDS

In 2017, Radiant Pavilion partnered with Art Jewelry Forum in presenting an opportunity for Victorian craft writers.
Supported by Creative Victoria and the City of Melbourne, Crafted Words encouraged critical discourse around contemporary craft, and emphasised the value of quality writing in this objective.

ANNA GRAY
Looking for Openings, Describing Radiant Pavilion
Anna was looking to connect with the skill, thoughts, and creativity of others jewelry artists, visitors and locals alike. A festival such as Radiant Pavilion offers the chance to see such diversity. It's not every day that the world comes south to Melbourne!

KYLIE KING
The Revolutionary Object
For this piece, Kylie explored and unpicked the threads and traces of identities, politics, and histories bound or contained within, imposed upon, collected, carried, represented, and challenged by the objects and practices encountered during the festival.

Each writer was commissioned to write a 1000wd critical piece on Radiant Pavilion 2017. The theme, direction and format was entirely up to the writers but the was to reflect on the event in some way – what they saw, issues that arose, discussions that were sparked etc. The pieces were published online on Art Jewelry Forum.

This was an important opportunity to support and encourage critical reflection and discussion on work shown in Radiant Pavilion and issues in the field more broadly, from a range of perspectives.

The aim was not to commission four reviews of the event, rather to tease out the conversations that occur as a result of it and provide a platform to share these with the community, in Australia and abroad.
